Radiesse®

For patients who visit him in his cosmetic surgery practice who struggle with visible wrinkles, Dr. Gerald Edds often recommends treatments of Radiesse. This injectable filler is used to restore lost facial volume to the face. It can diminish many of the common first signs of aging, helping patients to look younger and more refreshed without the need for surgery or an extended recovery time.

Who Can Benefit from Radiesse?

Radiesse is an injectable filler that is comprised of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a water-based gel. It is recognized by cosmetic surgeons for its bio-compatibility as well as its ease of use and durability. Dr. Edds uses this long-lasting dermal filler to treat nearly any type of wrinkle. In fact, patients often visit Dr. Edds in his Owensboro cosmetic surgery practice for treatments of Radiesse to correct:

moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds
nasolabial folds
facial contouring and augmentation
marionette lines
depressed scars

In your consultation with Dr. Edds, he will explain how Radiesse works and the steps of the treatment process. Your Radiesse treatment will be tailored to meet your specific needs. Dr. Edds will also explain what to expect after your treatment, as well as any aftercare you may need to do.

What Is the Procedure Like?

Your Radiesse treatment will be quite short. Most treatments can be completed in 45 minutes or less, depending on the area to be treated. For your comfort, you may be offered a topical anesthetic or the application of an ice pack prior to treatment. After your skin is cleansed, you will be ready for Radiesse.

Using special techniques that may include fanning, linear threading or crosshatching, Dr. Edds will inject a specific amount of the Radiesse solution beneath the surface of your skin at the site of the depression. There it will provide some immediate correction. Dr. Edds may then gently massage the injection site with his fingertips. This will allow for a more even placement of the Radiesse.

What Recovery Steps Will I Take?

When you leave Dr. Edds’ practice, you may experience some redness or swelling around the injection site. These side effects are usually short-lived and can be controlled with the application of an ice pack. During the first few hours after your treatment, Dr. Edds will ask you to avoid alcohol, sun exposure and exercise, though you should be able to return to most of your normal routine.

The wrinkle diminishing effects of your Radiesse treatment can last from 10-14 months. As time wears on, the solution will be naturally broken down by your body and you may wish to schedule follow-up treatments with Dr. Edds. Most patients return after 12-18 months.
